Starting in 2025, European visitors would be required to pay a fee in order to enter the United Kingdom under the new electronic travel authorization (ETA) regime. This action is part of the UK government’s broader plans of automatizing immigration and border processes.
Citizens from the European Union and other countries will be required to obtain an online travel permit in order to visit UK because of the current ETA system that has been in the process of implementation for several years. This permit costs £10 (about $13) and is for all tourists including children under the age of 16 and infants who do not require visa.
It is important to note that the ETA system would be gradual. People from other foreign countries, including the United States of America, will be required to acquire an ETA from November, 2024. The European citizens will also have to apply for an ETA before March 2025 in order to visit the UK from April 2025.
Yvette Cooper, the UK Home Secretary, explains that the implementation of the ETA system aims to improve security and accelerate visitor visitation procedures. ‘Once integrated, the ETA scheme will help to eliminate the current lack of advance permission and allow for a more exhaustive knowledge of those visitors who are arriving in the United Kingdom for the first time,’ Cooper pointed out.

Passports and the ETA attached to them will allow for more careful screening prior to travel. This approach should ideally prevent the misuse of the immigration system and ensure that only persons with legal rights are granted entry into the country.
The new measures mean that visitors coming to the UK from Europe will have to pay attention to the application of the ETA system and will have to ensure that they obtain the right permits for traveling to the country. Applications are available through the official government website and the UK ETA app, and the process is intended to be simple and quick.
