Credentialing – Why it is a critical component for Professionals

Credentialing is one of the most important facets of any sector in the modern world. Credentialing covers the entire verification and validation of different processes and systems that certify the professionals in any vocation to have actually undergone the necessary diligence and assessments to be deemed fit for their professional roles.

Organizations entrust their futures and their survival to professionals who work in them. Therefore the credentials act as living proof that they are entrusting these crucial aspects to the professionals who are deemed enough to handle them in an efficient and effective manner.

Previously, there was a severe lack in the entire process of verification of credentials and their verification which had led to a lot of discrepancies regarding the certification validity, and with no fixed systems in place, employers usually had to rely almost entirely on the professional’s claims with regard to certification.

This has moved on now, and the candidates who are certified today need to provide valid evidence in the form of online digital badges/online credentials to prove their claims of having acquired those very same credentials.

There are a lot of factors that go into the credentialing certification verification process for professionals these days. These are primarily classified into the following:

  1. Educational Background Verification- this holds true especially in the case of technical certification and business management oriented certifications, examples of these broad categories include data science, talent management and digital marketing. Employers check for the formal training that the professional has received before getting credentialed.
  2. Board Verification – This is where the role of having a globally acknowledged and renowned professional credentials comes into play. When getting credentialed, the credentialing authority automatically verified the background of the candidate to assess if he is fit for the role.
  3. Licenses – The licenses and credentials of the professional are formally granted. This ensures that the entire process of verification and assessments are already covered and that the professional is fit to be certified in their respective professions. These credentials are exactly the ones that the employers will verify.

The entire credentialing process by a credentialing organization described above ensures a lot of time and expenses are saved by the company, and that the professionals that are hired are trustworthy and capable of carrying out the company objectives and goals at par with the latest and the best practices and trends in the market.

In the past, employers looked only at academics and interviews and did not provide adequate emphasis on certifications. However, with the evolution of the digital and socially connected world, the process of credential verification has becoming easier and vastly simpler. This is, of course, leading the employers to lay out very strict guidelines on the employees that they hire being credentialed by international credentialing leaders in the professions of their choice.

While the importance of getting credentialed cannot be overlooked, it also needs to be seen that the credentials should come only from globally accepted and recognized authorities and credentialing platforms, so that employers across the world value them and the professionals who hold them.
