I have the pleasure of traveling a lot. However, I usually travel within the United States and use many regional airlines as a result.
Normally, I find out about airlines via the Google Flights Search.
Recently, I came across Silver Airways which is a regional airline that mainly offers its services in Florida, Bahamas, and some other states.
I had no idea this airline existed before my friends mentioned it. Not soon after, I got the opportunity to fly with them and the experience was great.
In this article, I aim to discuss more details about this airline to help you know more about it.
Let’s start!
An Overview of Silver Airways
Silver Airways is a regional airline service working in the United States. It mainly flies its passengers to the Bahamas, Florida, and other states in the Caribbean. It’s headquartered in Fort Lauderdale and has hubs in different cities including Orlando and San Juan.
It was founded back in 2011 and primarily operates a fleet of two aircraft, ATR 42-600 and ATR 72-600.
Everything You Need to Know Silver Airways
Here’s my detailed review of the different factors of this airline:
The Aircraft and Baggage
The aircraft I had the opportunity to fly in was ATR 42-600. My first impression was “It looks way too small”. But that was just a perception.
Its interior is actually very spacious. There are around 46 to 52 passenger seats that are very comfortable to sit in. I loved how the seats had ergonomic design and offered decent legroom (32-inch according to Silver itself).
What I found a little disappointing was its baggage system. However, it’s totally valid keeping in mind the structure and size of the airplane. Passengers have to get carry-on gate checked if they have any carry-on or personal items.
So, I’d recommend you plan and pack your baggage carefully. I was lucky enough to bring a small backpack for my laptop and other essentials and didn’t have to send them under the plane. There are some ticket options for which you may need to pay extra money to bring luggage bags.
You can also track flight status and schedule using their handy options!
Security
The security procedures of Silver Airways are strong. If you haven’t had your luggage checked, you’re definitely going through a direct security scanning. The process can be a little time-consuming sometimes.
I was lucky enough to have a TSA PreCheck status and was directed toward expedited security. So, keep in mind that Silver is a TSA PreCheck airline, and having this status can be a huge help.
Lounge
If you’re a person who loves using lounges at airports, Silver Airways might not impress you at all unless you’re flying out of Orlando. At the Orlando airport, it gives you access to The Club Lounge.
I was again lucky to fly out of the city and had the opportunity to use it, grabbed some snacks and enjoyed free WiFi while waiting for my flight time. But it was a bit crowded which wasn’t very comfortable.

Boarding
I’ve one line to say about boarding – it’s fast and smooth. It took 40 passengers to board in just 45 minutes. Keep in mind that you’ll be boarding from the tarmac since the jet bridge does not attach to the plane. Every other thing is smooth and you won’t find any inconvenience.
Plane interior
The plane interior when onboard looks nice. I’m not a tall guy so I moved through the aisle pretty comfortably. But if you’re a tall person (6’3”), you might need to duck a bit in order to move.
While sitting, I noticed how comfortable my legs were due to the decent legroom.
Disembarking
Just like onboarding, disembarking was super quick as well. You will have to disembark back to the tarmac and then go to the terminal.
Pricing
Its pricing system is very good. It offers different facilities like easy refunds and a free ticket system for the passengers. However, it depends on the fare type and you get three different options here:
- Refundable
- Freedom
- Escape
Also, it has a travel insurance policy that might work well for some passengers.
The exact ticket pricing depends on the departure date and travel distance. You can find more information about them directly from the Silver Airways website.
They also introduce exciting offers to help their customers save money when traveling.
Pros and Cons
Pros
- Easy onboarding
- Spacious aircraft interior
- Good legroom
- Easy disembarking
- Fair prices
Cons
- Lack of lounges
- Finding flights on the required dates might be difficult
Conclusion
Silver Airways is a regional airline service working in the United States. It offers the services in Florida, the Bahamas, and some other states. It has two main aircraft in its fleet.
Security is strong and it doesn’t take long to onboard and disembark the airplane. Its interior is good and the seats are extremely comfortable. Still, some points like the confused baggage system and lack of airport lounges can bother some people.
